OAKLAND, Calif. Boston Red Sox Shirts . -- Kurt Suzuki couldnt have scripted his return to the Oakland Coliseum any better. A longtime fan favourite for the Athletics, he greeted his old supporters with a three-run homer in his first home game back with the club since being traded away last August, and Jed Lowrie hit a go-ahead double in the eighth inning of a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. "It was pretty special," Suzuki said. "Its awesome. Just being around the guys, Ive played with the majority of the guys in this locker room last year or years before. It just seems like I never left." Lowrie extended his hitting streak to 12 games with his Oakland-record 13th double in August, off Joel Peralta. James Loney had tied it with a double in the top half for Tampa Bay. Jarrod Parker dueled with David Price to run his unbeaten streak to 17 straight starts, matching Catfish Hunters Oakland record set from June 2-Sept. 3, 1973. The As pulled within two games of the first-place Texas Rangers in the AL West, and moved ahead of Tampa Bay in the wild-card race. Price (8-6) had his five-game winning streak snapped, losing for the first time in nine starts since July 12 against Houston. Parker came out for the eighth at 100 pitches, but gave way to winner Ryan Cook (6-3) after allowing the first two hitters to reach. Grant Balfour pitched the ninth for his 34th save in 36 chances, leaving the tying run aboard a day after blowing a save at Detroit by allowing four runs. "Ill take that," Balfour said. Parker received a couple of early pep talks from Suzuki, who later delivered with the timely home run, which he said "for it to be off a pitcher like Price, whos arguably one of the best pitchers in the game right now, was pretty neat." Suzuki is living in a hotel, stilly carrying a Nationals bag, and eagerly awaiting his familys arrival to the Bay Area on Monday. He had more than 15,000 people to help lift his spirits Friday. "You couldnt write that, you couldnt make that stuff up," Parker said. "Hes huge to us." Oakland beat the Rays for the first time after being swept in Florida from April 19-21. Tampa Bay outscored the reigning AL West champions 17-4 in that series. With the Bay Bridge closed all weekend, the Rays team bus left San Francisco at 2 p.m. Friday and didnt arrive to the Coliseum until 3:45. Price opted to take a cab before his start Friday, and it cost him a whopping $202, then tweeted he would take a helicopter Saturday. Manager Joe Maddon plans to take the BART train Saturday. Friday got stranger for the Rays when reliever Fernando Rodney briefly got stuck in the dugout bathroom during the game. "It was a kind of a fun moment," Maddon said. "We kind of rallied then -- we should have kept him in there. A lot of the commotion in the dugout in the eighth inning and part of the rally was someone beating on the door. Finally someone broke the door knob with a bat to get him out. I dont even know who the hero was getting him out. I say he was in there a solid 15 minutes." For Suzuki, rejoining the As for a pennant race has worked out well so far. He was cheered at every chance despite his light pregame remarks that he expected "a bunch of boos." Yunel Escobar hit an RBI single and Matt Joyce a sacrifice fly as the Rays kicked off a stretch with 13 of 16 games on the road. Second baseman Ben Zobrist had his Rays record 81-game errorless streak end on a wild throw in the fifth. His previous error came May 11 against San Diego. On Wednesday night, they showed that stellar defence and a little small ball can get the job done too. With pinch-runner Kevin Pillar aboard after Dioner Navarro opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, Anthony Gose dropped down an excellent bunt along the first-base line. The Winnipeg Jets have now won three straight under new head coach Paul Maurice. The first period was scoreless with the Jets outshooting the Oilers 11-8, and both Ilya Bryzgalov and Ondrej Pavelec making a number of very good saves. The Oilers opened the scoring in the second period on a power play goal from Jordan Eberle, his 16th of the year. After the game Maurice commented on the goal, saying he wanted lefthanded Olli Jokinen to take the faceoff to the left of the Jets net, but Jokinen was not available due to a broken skate lace. On the game, Jokinen won 76 per cent of his faceoffs, winning 13 of 17. After the goal, the Jets dominated the remainder of the period but could not find the tying goal. Jets outshot Edmonton 13-8 in the second. The Jets started the third period on a power play but on this day, the power play that had scored five goals in the last four games went zero for five. But special teams did play a part in the third, as Jacob Trouba would tie the game with a shorthanded tap in goal at 5:48. The goal was Troubas first career shorthanded goal, with Bryan Little extending his point streak to four with an assist. Little is 2-4-6 over the four games. The goal came just over two minutes after Pavelec made a great save off Eberle, who went in alone but was stopped as he tried to go to the backhand. At 10:37, Mark Scheifele gave the Jets their first lead of the day with the nicest goal of the afternoon. Scheifele worked the puck out of the corner, withstood a couple of hits and buried his own rebound with a backhand shot for his ninth goal of the season and his first career goal on home ice. Blake Wheeler and Eric ODell drew assists with ODell moving onto that line in the third period with the Jets down a goal. Scheifele now has three goals and seven points in his last six games, and is 7-11-18 in his last 20 games. It appeared the goal would be the winner until the Oilers caught a bit oof a break. A puck in the Jets end headed for Zach Bogosian went off the officials skate, and ended up at the point where a Jeff Petry shot was deflected by David Perron to the tie the game with two minutes left in regulation. It was Perrons 18th of the year. Jets outshot the Oilers 13-5 in the third. The overtime ended with a great effort by Wheeler, who attacked the Oiler zone with speed, had Bryzgalov down and out only to have the puck hit the side of the net. Wheeler stayed with it, and set up Trouba for his second tap-in goal of the afternoon to end it. It was Troubas first ever overtime goal and his first career two-goal game. For Wheeler, it was back to back two-point games. Final shots were 39-22 in favour of the Jets. Jets are now 3-1 in games that end in overtime and 8-5 overall in extra time games. Trouba finished a plus two, with five shots on goal in 23:32 of ice time. Zach Bogosian led the team at 25:42, Scheifele led the team in shots on goal with six. Pavelec has now won three straight games for the first time since mid-November. "The effort and intensity were good, so it was a big win for us," said Maurice after the game. "The puck wasnt easy for us, lots of deflected passes. There were things wed like to have done better but I liked our bench, I liked the fact we got better as the game went on." He again liked the play of Scheifele and Trouba. "They are good players with good instincts. I really liked the way Scheifele scored his goal. Took two hits to score. I think the difference between the first two periods and the third was our energy level. Weve got this building and its a bit of a powder keg." So its three straight wins for the Jets but the team will be put to the test this week with road games in Anaheim and San Jose (both on TSN Jets and TSN 1290), then a home game Saturday vs Toronto and into Chicago on Sunday.
