CLEVELAND -- The Raptors arent officially in the NBA playoffs. They dont look ready for them, either. Dion Waiters scored 24 points, Luol Deng added 19 and the Cleveland Cavaliers prevented Toronto from getting closer to a post-season spot with a 102-100 win over the sloppy Raptors on Tuesday night. Toronto fell behind by 21 points in the third quarter, and then battled back to take a 95-94 lead. But the Raptors fell apart in the final minutes. With their fourth loss in six games, the Raptors dropped one-half game behind Chicago for the No. 3 playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. "We gotta get back to who we are," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said in disgust. "Its easy to get up for OKC, Miami and Indiana, but the other teams are playing for something too, which is pride. That can be even more dangerous." Despite playing without All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, who missed his fifth straight game with a strained biceps tendon, the Cavs were able to hold on and snap a five-game losing streak at home. "It was a good win by our guys," coach Mike Brown said. "Thats a playoff team. They were playing good basketball. In a game like that, maybe earlier in the season we might have lost, especially coming down the stretch when a team makes a run against us. Our guys found a way to win." Kyle Lowry scored 22 and Terrence Ross had 16 for the Raptors, who had a chance to tie it in the final seconds but guard Greivis Vasquez lost his footing and committed a turnover with 1.9 seconds left. "I was trying to spin and I lost my balance," Vasquez said. "It was just a bad play for me. It was me going to my weak hand and I lost my balance, stepped kind of weird. I turned the ball over. Ill take responsibility. Im not going to run away. Im a man. I wish I could be in that position again so we have another opportunity tomorrow (at Boston)." Toronto took a 95-94 lead on Vasquezs 3-pointer with 6:45 remaining, but the Raptors went just 1 of 9 from the floor and scored five points the rest of the way. Tristan Thompson added 15 points and 13 rebounds and Jarret Jack had 13 points for Cleveland, which kept its faint playoff hopes alive. The Cavs trail idle Atlanta by 4 1/2 games for the No. 8 playoff slot. The Raptors may be closing in on their first post-season appearance since 2008, but the Atlantic Division leaders looked out of sorts at both ends. They fought back from a big deficit, but fell apart with the game on the line. Toronto missed three free throws in the final 4:26, but still had a chance to force overtime or possibly steal their 40th win after forcing a Cleveland turnover on an errant inbounds pass with 7.8 seconds to go. But Vasquez, who finished with 16 points, drove the left side and slipped about 10 feet from the basket. As he fell, Vasquez flung the ball in desperation and it was intercepted on the right side by Deng. Vasquez remained on the floor for a few seconds grabbing his ankle before he limped off the court. "It was a handoff to Greivis to turn the corner," Casey said. "I thought he turned it pretty well and his ankle went out on him. But one play was not when we lost that game. The game was decided with the way we played in the first quarter." However, Toronto didnt execute when it needed to and lost to a Cleveland team playing for nothing more than pride. At least the Cavs overcame their own mistakes, something theyve rarely done during this disappointing season. "We just stayed with it," Waiters said. "We didnt get rattled and made plays when we needed to." Clevelands offence was clicking early on. The Cavs recorded assists on eight of their first 10 buckets, opened a 14-point lead in the first quarter and pushed their advantage to 18 in the second. Toronto made three 3-pointers -- the Raptors had eight 3s in the first half -- in a span of 1:27 to climb within 49-40, but Cleveland regrouped and led 59-45 at halftime. NOTES: The Cavs are 12-11 since Feb. 7. ... Toronto was just 16 of 26 from the line. ... Irving rode a stationary bike on the side as the Cavs went through their morning shootaround. David Alaba gave Bayern a perfect start in the fourth minute, with further goals from Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben ensuring a winning start. "I could hear from fans today, Finale, Finale, but lets keep our feet on the ground. We need to go step by step," Robben said. "Its early in the season. The most important thing is to concentrate on ourselves, improve as we go on. It was a good start." Bayerns Group D rivals Manchester City beat Viktoria Plzen by the same scoreline. Ronaldo stole the attention for Madrid, while two-time Italian champion Juventus came from behind to draw 1-1 at Copenhagen in the other Group B match. Wayne Rooney proved he is back to his best following a summer of upheaval as he scored twice to help Manchester United to a 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen and Shakhtar Donetsk won 2-0 at Real Sociedad. In Group C, Paris Saint-Germain crushed Olympiakos 4-1 and Benfica beat Anderlecht 2-0. Bayern, which appointed Pep Guardiola as coach after claiming an unprecedented treble last season, was rarely troubled by the Russian league leader. Alaba gave the German champions an early lead with a free kick into the left side of the goal after being fouled on the edge of the penalty area. Mandzukic, who had earlier hit the post, headed home Robbens in-swinging free kick to double Bayerns advantage in the 41st minute. Robben sealed the result in the 68th, blasting home Alabas ball over the defence. Bayern is attempting to become the first club since 1990 to defend the European Cup. Manchester City matched Bayern thanks to second-half goals from Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero. Real Madrid is bidding for a first Champions League trophy since 2002, and it sent out a warning sign to its rivals with a resounding victory in Turkey. "The match was good and the result fantastic," coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "After Iscos goal the match became simpler. We defended well and when Benzema and Cristian Ronaldo have a good night on the counterattack, its easy, even though winning in this stadium is not easy." There was plenty of attention for Gareth Bale as he made his Champions League debut for Madrid in the second half. But it was Ronaldo -- the player Bale usurped as the worlds most expensive footballer -- who was the star of the night. Francisco "Isco" Alarcon oopened the scoring after 33 minutes and Karim Benzema went on to strike twice during a second half in which Ronaldo was unstoppable.dddddddddddd The former Manchester United player scored Madrids third in the 63rd and doubled his tally three minutes later. Ronaldo completed his hat trick in stoppage time, capping a brilliant night for him and his team by weaving past three Galatasaray defenders before smashing the ball into the back of the net. It was Ronaldos second Champions League hat trick and a fitting way for him to celebrate signing a new contract with Madrid. Juventus will have a hard time beating Madrid to top spot in the group and it got off to a difficult start in Denmark. Antonio Contes side was stunned when Nicolai Jorgensen fired Copenhagen in front in the 14th minute, beating Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon from close range after Pierre Bengtssons free kick. Fabio Quagliarella levelled nine minutes after halftime. Manchester United manager Moyes has limited experience in the competition, having lost both qualifying matches back in 2005 when in charge of Everton. Rooney, still wearing a thick, black headband to cover a deep gash to his forehead sustained in a training ground collision, opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Simon Rolfes equalized against the run of play for Leverkusen in the 54th but Robin van Persie restored Uniteds lead five minutes later. Rooney then scored his 200th goal for United in all competitions before setting up Valencia following a quick counterattack for the winger to fizz a low shot in at the near post. "Ive concentrated on working hard to get my head down, to get myself fit and ready for the season," Rooney said. "Im delighted with the way Ive come back and delighted Im back playing and scoring goals. "Its great the reception I get here and hopefully I can repay (the fans) with performances and goals like tonight." Omer Toprak poked in a close-range consolation goal for Leverkusen two minutes from time. Alex Teixeira struck twice in the second half to give Shakhtar Donetsk a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in Group A. In Greece, Edinson Cavani opened the scoring for PSG in the 19th minute but Vladimir Weiss levelled six minutes later, weaving past three defenders for an impressive solo effort. However, Thiago Motta headed in two second-half goals and Marquinios completed the scoring in the 86th. Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a late penalty for the French champions.
