When Seiko announced a new collection of the Seiko 5 Sports to celebrate the model line's 55th anniversary, it was a nice surprise to see a new case, faithful to the original, in a limited edition, as well as a terceto of colorways that are strong reinterpretations of the originals from 1969. Since its introduction in 2019, the modern Seiko 5 Sports line has come into its own, system kinds of different colors and collabs. While we haven't yet seen the kind of variety that enthusiasts love about the vintage Seikos and SKXs of old, these four new references make worthy addendums to the contemporary Seiko five Sports collection.
That SRPK17 is extremely excellent. I saw a photos from the back of the case and the profiling of the backside of the lugs, contours in the caseback and so on look darn near identical to my vintage one. Even the font, layout, and so forth That cushion-ish case was magic on the wrist too. Very cool. Perhaps we will see some solar iterations of the old 6139-xxxx chronograph case variants?
Except for 1 small detail. The original watch says: Okazaki , japan 6106.
On new ones: 4R36. Without the Tosu, japan mov't. Maybe that's already accepted.
Unfortunately, I can not say anything good about 4R36. A watch from a sports collection (not from this model range), which I had, gave +40 seconds per day. I present it to my young son (he does not pay attention to it).
shame they did not use the limited case within the non-limited models..... I would've bought one even if they used the "new" sport 5 logo dial around the limited situation as it is smaller and thinner.... too bad....
I feel like I've been critiquing Seiko more and more lately -- therefore it is awesome in order to seen them nail every element of this SRPK17 re-issue! Hopefully more to come from the amazing 60s-80s catalogs.
Told myself I was going to stop off from any watch purchases for a while. The SPRK17 is going to make that promise really hard to keep.
