The Winniepg Jets finished the four game Central Division trip at 1-2-1, and are now 2-3-1 on the road this season, with each game being decided by one goal. In Edmonton, a 5-4 win, Minnesota a 2-1 loss, Nashville a 3-2 loss in overtime, Dallas a 2-1 shoot-out win, Colorado a 3-2 loss and St. Louis a 3-2 loss. Add up the goals for in the last five road games and the total is eight. (Shootout winner in Dallas not in the total). The inability to get that third goal has been costly. On this four-game trip, Blake Wheeler (3), Bryan Little (2), Anthony Peluso (1), Evander Kane (1) were the only Jets to score. Andrew Ladd had the winner in the shootout win in Dallas. In St. Louis, the Jets again surrendered the first goal as Brenden Morrow scored his second of the year. The Jets (5-7-2) have only scored the first goal of the game three times. They tied it on a 5-on-3 power play with Wheeler scoring his fourth goal in the last five games, and snapping an eight-game team power play drought. The Jets did not score a 5-on-3 goal in 10 opportunities last year. The physical first period ended tied at 1-1. There was no scoring in the second period with special teams the key in the third. Alex Pietrangelo regained the lead for St. Louis as the Blues forced a turnover in the Jets zone. The Jets penalty kill was excellent in this game against the leagues number one power play. While killing their fifth penalty, Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little broke into the Blues zone with Little finishing the play off with his second short-handed goal of the season. It was Littles seventh goal of the year, tying his output from last year. "Im shooting more and not squeezing the stick as much," Little would say on the TSN Jets post-game interview. It appeared as though the Jets would go to overtime for the fifth time in seven games until Toby Enstrom was called for interference at 17:47, giving St. Louis one last power play chance, and Alexander Steen would put a back hand shot off the post, off Ondrej Pavelecs pad and in for the game winner. It was his league-leading 11th goal of the year and came with one minute left in the third. The Jets again had quality chances with no results. Wheeler hit the inside of the post late in the second, while Jaroslav Halak made a number of key saves in the third, including one off Michael Frolik at the side of the net that would have given the Jets the lead. There was plenty of frustration in the Jets room after this one. Finding ways to lose was a common quote. It was a heart-breaking loss in a game the Jets deserved at least a point. But shorthanded six times is too many as the Jets now lead the NHL in short-handed situations. Little took 27 face-offs, Mark Stuart blocked six shots, Dustin Byfuglien played 26:35, all team highs. Head coach Claude Noel, like his players, was frustrated with another one goal defeat. "We gave ourselves a chance, but we found a way to lose," said Noel. "We gave their power play a lot of opportunities. This could have been a decent trip." The Jets return to action at MTS Centre Saturday afternoon against Chicago (TSN 1290) and Monday against Detroit (TSN Jets, TSN 1290.) They will play 14 games in 28 days in November. Defenceman Ben Chiarot was recalled from St. Johns but did not play. The Jets have defenceman Jacob Trouba and Paul Postma on IR, as well as forward Jim Slater. A number of others are also battling bumps and bruises. Jake Lamb Jersey . -- Isaiah Pead took a stutter step forward, then raced to the left sideline and travelled 60 yards up the field before finally getting tripped up by a leg tackle.BOSTON -- Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens suggested to forward Jared Sullinger that he might want to keep an eye on Kevin Love and try to learn whatever he could from the Timberwolves big man. For one quarter on Monday night, Sullinger schooled the Minnesota all-star. Sullinger had 15 points and six rebounds in the fourth, hitting a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 2:22 left and the Celtics held on to beat the Timberwolves 101-97. Sullinger, a second-year player who missed half of last season, had 24 points and 11 rebounds in all while adding a career-high five assists. "He did take it up a notch at the end," Stevens said of Sullinger, who made one 3-pointer all last season but pulled himself above 30 per cent from the arc this season. "Hes a scorer. Hes always been a scorer. Hes been a scorer as long as Ive known him. It never surprises me when scorers make plays." Avery Bradley scored 19 points for the Celtics, who won for the fifth time in seven games to hold onto first place in the Atlantic Division despite a 12-14 record that would be 12th-best in the Western Conference. Love had 27 points and 14 rebounds for Minnesota, which has not won in Boston since 2005. But he was 2 for 11 from 3-point range as the Timberwolves, who hit a season-high 12 3-pointers at Memphis on Sunday, went 8 of 29 from beyond the arc. "I shot the ball good, it just didnt go in," Love said. "It was that way for all of our team. ... We shot the ball pretty bad the whole game. We beat that team the majority of the time we play them." Love hit a 3-pointer to give Minnesota a 92-90 lead with 3:48 to play, then Jordan Crawford tied it from the right baseline. Sullinger missed a baby hook putback for Boston, but Alexey Shved missed a 3-pointer and Sullinger then hit his 3 from the top of the key to give Boston the lead for good. "We made the right plays and I happened to be the beneficiary," Sulllinger said.dddddddddddd "I was just wide open. I passed up a lot of shots in the third quarter when I was wide open." Stevens said hed like to see Sullinger do that more. "Kevin is considered an elite NBA player, and Jared is a rising NBA player. You look up to those guys, you study them and you figure out what they do to make themselves elite," Stevens said. "If theres a person in basketball that you can identify with, those are good guys to learn from." Boston led 95-94 when Sullinger grabbed the rebound of J.J. Bareas miss and made free throws with 18 seconds left to make it a three-point game. Nikola Pekovic missed a dunk, then Sullinger grabbed another rebound and made one of two free throws with 14 seconds left to help ice it. After Love missed a 3, Sullinger grabbed another rebound. Bradley had 10 points in the first quarter to help the Celtics open an eight-point lead. Love had six points and five rebounds for Minnesota after one, but it was Luc Mbah a Moute who led the Timberwolves in the second quarter, scoring seven points with four rebounds to help them open a one-point lead before Sullingers free throws just before the half gave Boston a 51-50 edge. Pekovic scored the first seven points of the second half -- all but a free throw in the lane -- to help the Wolves take a 57-51 lead. But Boston went on a 17-4 run to turn the six-point deficit into a seven-point lead. NOTES: Berea had 10 points and 11 assists for Minnesota. ...
