FORT WORTH, Texas -- IndyCar owner Ed Carpenter now drives his car only on ovals. Discount Nike Free Shoes . He does it well. Carpenter stayed in front of Will Power during a two-lap shootout to win at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night after a late caution night wiped out his huge lead. The victory came two weeks after a late accident took away any chance to win the Indianapolis 500. "Its just good to bounce back," Carpenter said. "Nothing really totally makes up for missed opportunity at the Speedway. But at the same time, it always feels good to win, especially a place like this. ... This is a big win for us." On the final green-flag stop with 35 laps left, Carpenter beat polesitter and season points leader Power off pit road. Team Penske driver Power made things worse when he was penalized for speeding out of the pits. "Im just going too hard," said Power, who had his fourth drive-thru penalty in five races but kept the points lead. "I just go for race wins. Im not looking at points." Power was sixth, and Carpenter had a lead of about 18 seconds over Juan Pablo Montoya, when Takuma Satos engine blew and his car caught fire with seven laps left. While the top four cars stayed out during that caution, Power went in for fresh tires. That gave him the chance to make up some ground, and he made a big charge after the final restart to finish second, only a half-second back. With another lap, the outcome might have been different. "I dont know. Ed was awfully strong," Power said. "Hes an awesome driver and it would have been a good battle at the end. ... It was a lot of fun." Carpenters third career victory, all on ovals, came after leading 90 of 248 laps. After winning at Kentucky for Sarah Fisher Racing in 2011, he started his own team the next year and won the season finale at California. Carpenter was on the pole at Indy the last two seasons, and this year is leaving the road and street courses to Mike Conway. Conway won at Long Beach the second race this season and was in the cockpit for both races at Detroit last weekend. So this was the first race for Carpenter since the late crash at Indy with James Hinchcliffe. "It feels good. Theres no denying the fact that I was really mad after Indy," Carpenter said. "Its not that Im still mad at Hinch, but Im still mad at the situation and we lost an opportunity. ... Were just going to keep the intensity up and try to keep fighting for wins." Carpenter went to the high side to get around Power on lap 182, and within a lap had already pushed ahead by nearly a second. Power led 145 laps. Montoya finished third, ahead of Simon Pagenaud, Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan -- the only drivers to finish on the lead lap. Helio Castroneves, the defending race winner and a four-time winner at Texas, was 10th. The race was 20 laps longer than last year when Castroneves won. At the end of 228 laps, the length of the 2013 race, Carpenter had a 13 1/2-second lead over Montoya. Indianapolis 500 champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, the Dallas-born driver who has said he "definitely, desperately" wants to win at Texas, had another tough weekend and only finished 135 laps before losing power and oil pressure. Since winning at Indy, Andretti Motorsport driver Hunter-Reay finished 16th and 19th at the dual races in Detroit and 19th at Texas. Marco Andretti, his teammate, finished last in the 22-car field after his own mechanical issues. Andretti started 17th and quickly moved into the top 10 after three laps before his engine blew and the car caught fire while he was trying to get back into the pits. He had to stop on the apron out of Turn 4, then hopped out of the car and walked back to his pit box. "This ones frustrating and this one really hurts for the championship too," said Andretti, who entered the weekend fifth in season points, two spots below Hunter-Reay. Is Odell Beckham getting too much hype over his big week and even bigger catch, or can he be a top-end fantasy WR the rest of the way? Cullen: Hes not being under-hyped, thats for sure, because a spectacular catch during a national game is going to catch attention, but the spectacular nature of the catch shouldnt detract from the real value that Beckham has as a receiver. In the past four weeks, hes been targeted 44 times, making 31 catches for 503 yards and a couple of touchdowns. It may be unlikely that he keeps that lofty pace but, particularly with the Giants facing a soft schedule coming up (Jacksonville, Tennessee, Washington), Beckham should be a high-end option at wide receiver. Congratulations to all those who plucked him off the waiver wire. Fisher: Any receiver that can make a catch like that (reportedly) on a regular basis in practice, dating back to college, is worth a lot of hype. He’s not a top-end WR yet, prior to his huge Week 12 Beckham was performing more like a high-end WR2, but he will be. With his breakout performance, Beckham joins the cast of several rookie receivers who deserve to be keepers in such leagues. Hetherington: Beckham is getting a lot of attention, but deservedly so, his performance on Sunday night was nothing short of spectacular. Im not sure top-end is the right category, but I see Beckham being every-week safe WR2 for the remainder of the season. Much like fellow rookie Kelvin Benjamin, Beckham is the lone threat at wide receiver on his team. Therefore, targets are a guarantee and - as long as its in his wingspan - Beckham will catch any ball thrown his way. CJ Anderson finally looks like the back we expected from the Broncos offence. Can he be trusted more than Montee Ball or Ronnie Hillman for sustained success? Cullen: Third in line for the Broncos running game, after Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman, Anderson has been really productive over the past three weeks, gaining 473 yards from scrimmage with a couple touchdowns on 65 touches in the past three weeks. He seems to be a good fit for the Broncos because hes a viable threat as a receiver and while hes likely to face challenges for playing time from Juwan Thompson or if the others get healthy,, Anderson is a good choice right now, a productive starting running back on a premier offence. Wholesale Nike Free. Fisher: I’m of the opinion that big fantasy numbers out of the Broncos’ backfield should be expected, not just hoped for. Anderson’s finally doing the position justice, which is more an indictment of Ball and Hillman than it is a compliment to Anderson. Still, Anderson is doing what any running back in Denver should do – putting up points in bunches – and he should continue that relatively easy feat all season. Hetherington: Im beginning to think the Broncos backfield cursed. Every time a back seems to emerge, he goes down with injury. Im going to take a guess and say the third times the charm for the Broncos at running back and Andersons the guy that can finally stay healthy. As long as he does, Anderson is a RB1 in an offence that scores points in bunches. Limiting Andersons long-term outlook, however, is the eventual returns of Ball and Hillman. Though those may not come until after the fantasy season. The Redskins are starting Colt McCoy. Should fantasy players be doing the same? Cullen: Are we talking two or three-quarterback leagues here? McCoy has been great in his two appearances this year (36-for-42, 427 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), but I would have to be in a completely desperate situation to put my fantasy hopes on McCoy. This seasons results notwithstanding, I would need to see a bunch more before starting McCoy this late in the season. Just because the Redskins are doing it doesnt mean every fantasy owner should behave so recklessly. Fisher: McCoy has one good game on film and the fantasy scoreboard, and a whole lot of bad ones from his time in Cleveland. Owners of RG3, if there are any left patient enough to endure through his struggles, can find much better replacements on the waiver wire than McCoy. Hetherington: McCoy would be an extreme reach of a start this week. Colt did a good job of moving the offence in his two outings with the Redskins earlier this year, but expecting more than one touchdown from him is a stretch. I dont even see McCoy on the QB2 radar this week, though he may have the opportunity to rack up fantasy points in garbage time if the Colts run up the score early. With the way the Redskins have played as a whole, I cant see McCoy playing the savior for the struggling team. ' ' '
