GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida is making a strong push to catch up in the facilities race of college athletics.A little more than a year after finishing a $17 million indoor practice field and with a $65 million renovation to its on-campus arena nearing completion, the Gators announced concepts for the next phase of upgrades Friday. The $100 million master plan includes a stand-alone football facility and significant improvements to outdated baseball and softball stadiums.Theres a lot of momentum building in our program on different levels, said Jeremy Foley, who is retiring Oct. 1 after 25 years as Floridas athletic director. And I think these things are going to keep us moving forward.Foley and his staff shared the concepts with the University Athletic Association board Friday afternoon and then released them publicly. The school still has to raise the $100 million, which Foley expects will come from private donations, bonds and borrowed cash. The Gators, who already have $91 million in debt carried, anticipate having blueprints and a timeframe for breaking ground this fall.Florida currently houses football meeting rooms and coaches offices inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Its cramped quarters, and the weight room is shared with student-athletes from other sports. The stand-alone facility would give the football program its own space, an estimated 100,000 square feet located between the teams practice fields and the basketball practice facility. It will have offices, a training room, a weight room, a players lounge, a recruiting lounge and other amenities. Second-year coach Jim McElwain has been outspoken about the need to upgrade Floridas facilities. It will be everything that we need, that Mac has envisioned, Foley said. Obviously, he has been talking about facilities because those are important to him. Part of our job as athletic directors and administrators is to listen to our coaches. You cant always do everything you want right away. You cant always do what they want all the time because of financial constraints. But at the University of Florida, when that football coach has a vision he wants to convey to you, were going to do it.Other parts of the plan include:- McKethan Stadium, where the baseball team practices and plays, would get about 400 club seats covered by a roof structure, field-level seating behind home plate, expanded dugouts and a renovated press box. The team also would get a players lounge and enhanced locker rooms.- Pressly Stadium, where the softball team practices and plays, would expand seating from 1,200 to about 2,500, add shaded structures over seats behind home plate and along the first- and third-base lines, create additional restrooms and concession spaces, and add offices, locker rooms and meeting rooms.- A new dining hall would be built for all student-athletes.- Current football offices would be converted into administrative offices, and the current weight room and training room would be renovated for use by all student-athletes.One of the things we did when we did our facility assessment is to look at what we current had, what our needs were, what are peer institutions had and then determine, `OK, where do we need it and where is the best place to do it? said Chip Howard, Floridas executive associate AD for internal affairs. It had become obvious that Floridas facilities were not on par with some of the biggest spenders in the Southeastern Conference and other high-profile programs around the country. But if these concepts become reality the Gators will have committed $207 million to facility upgrades since January 2015. That includes the master plan projects, the indoor practice facility, the ODome renovation and the Hawkins Center, a $25 million academic center for student-athletes.Foley is quick to point out that the Gators won two national titles in football (2006, 2008), back-to-back national championships in basketball (2006-07), advanced to the College World Series five times in the last nine years and won consecutive softball titles (2014-15) without the plushest amenities.Facilities are just part of the conversation, Foley said. Our facilities have not kept us from being successful. ... Obviously these things are going to help us recruit, help us be successful. At the end of the day, its going to go back to what it always does: coaching, recruiting. These facilities will enhance that, but its not the end-all, be-all.If you have good coaches, youre going to get good athletes, and weve shown that time and time again around here.---AP college football website: www.collegefootball.ap.orgWholesale Football Jerseys . -- Arizona knocked off some quality opponents, rolled over a few overmatched ones and grinded out victories even when things didnt go so well. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- There arent many quarterbacks who can look at their head-to-head matchups with Tom Brady and smile.Joe Flacco can do it.While Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens have a 3-5 record in games against Brady and the New England Patriots, Flaccos personal numbers have been better than the NFLs all-time winningest quarterback as they prepare to face each other again Monday night.Weve played him quite a bit. It seems like he always plays well against us, so I have a lot of respect for him, Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the Baltimore media on a conference call Wednedsay. Hes a good football player and hes been pretty good. Dont forget, he took them to the Super Bowl championship.Flacco, who threw four touchdown passes in last weeks 38-6 blowout of the previously hot Miami Dolphins, has thrown 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions while amassing a 91.3 passer rating against Brady-led teams. Brady has 10 touchdowns and 10 picks and has lost two fumbles in those games.Joe Flacco is one of the top quarterbacks in the league, Patriots safety and defensive captain Devin McCourty said Wednesday. I think his ability to get the ball down the field and also his experience and understanding of whats going on out there and knowing how to attack a defense.Brady and Flacco have split four postseason games, but the Patriots (10-2) are 7-1 all-time against the Ravens (7-5) in the regular season. We have to go up into a hostile place in New England that we really enjoy playing, Flacco said. Its going to be another important game in December up there on a Monday night, and its going to be a lot of fun. Im looking forward to it, big time.In six regular-season games against the Ravens, Brady is 5-1 but has just six touchdowns with three interceptions and a passer rating of 83.6. He has also been sacked 14 times. But thats the past. As far as the present, Brady last week posted win No. 201 to take the all-time lead, counting playoffs, away from Peyton Manning. He is one win from becoming the third quarterback with 180 regular-season victoriess -- a win he clearly hopes to get in this meeting with a fellow division leader.ddddddddddddow we have our toughest challenge, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said. Were going to need to play our best football on Monday night up in New England to win that football game. We do believe we have a chance to do that based on where were at right now. Thats what were shooting for.Since returning from his four-game Deflategate suspension, Brady has completed 68.9 percent of his passes, throwing 19 touchdowns and just one interception -- the only pick thrown by New Englands three quarterbacks this season. But he will be missing two weapons in the teams first Monday Night Football matchup since 2007. Rob Gronkowski is out for the season with back surgery and Danny Amendola is out until the playoffs with a high ankle sprain suffered in last weeks win over the Los Angeles Rams. But rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell has emerged in recent games and the Patriots have gone 7-1 with Brady back. The Ravens have won their last two, and really cooled off a hot team last week.Getting to the playoffs is a big accomplishment. To put yourself in position to play meaningful games in December is also a big accomplishment, Flacco said. You cant take that for granted. Youve got to keep your focus 100 percent of the time.Lost a bit in the excitement of Bradys record-setting day and the celebration of the 2001 title team was the kicking of Stephen Gostkowski, who made four field goals, three of them 45 yards or longer, as a sign he could be out of his slump. He was named AFC special teams player of the week Wednesday. Its a start. Its one game, Gostkowski said after the game. Every week is a different challenge. You just got to battle, keep your head down, stay humble and show up, but control your attitude and you effort and make sure both of those are good and have faith in the process that what youve been doing is going to continue.
