MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired guard Courtney Lee and have sent guard Jerryd Bayless to the Boston Celtics as part of a three-team trade that also includes the Oklahoma City Thunder. Under terms of the deal announced Tuesday, the Grizzlies get Lee and a 2016 second-round draft pick from Boston. The Celtics get Bayless and also receive forward Ryan Gomes from Oklahoma City. The Grizzlies sent a 2014 second-round pick theyd acquired from Philadelphia in August and a 2017 second-round pick to the Thunder. Both picks going to Oklahoma City are conditional. Bayless joined his new team earlier Tuesday in Denver and was expected to see at least spot duty for the Celtics in their game Tuesday night against the Nuggets. "We spent a good hour this morning together watching film and took him through some extra stuff after shootaround," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said in a news conference prior to the game against the Nuggets. "Not trying to build Rome in a day, but making sure that he at least has a feel for some of the things that well look to do while hes in the game. Well have to simplify things quite a bit when hes in." In a separate move, the Celtics said they have waived Gomes, who had appeared in five games for the Thunder this season and had six points and four rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Stevens said the Celtics lost a good player in Lee but they added versatility and scoring punch with the addition of Bayless. "Courtney did a really good job for us scoring off the bench," Stevens said. "Thats what Jerryd has been very good at in his time in Memphis. He obviously had a great run last year as they went through to the Western Conference finals. He hasnt had as good of a year to start this year but he was great against us. Hes a guy who can play the one and the two which gives us more flexibility at those spots." The 28-year-old Lee has averaged 7.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.8 minutes per game this season. The 6-foot-5 guard is shooting 44.2 per cent from 3-point range. The 6-3 Bayless averages 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 21.0 minutes this season. Bayless, 25, is shooting 37.7 per cent. Sylvia Bryson has been fighting to have the womens hockey team reinstated as a varsity squad since filing her complaint in 2009, a year after the team was stripped of its funding and downgraded to a competitive sports club. Bryson, who played for the team, alleges that the decision to relegate the womens team constitutes discrimination on the basis of sex. The university argued in March that Bryson didnt have a personal stake because she is not a full-time student and working in Newfoundland, and therefore wouldnt qualify to play, so her complaint is moot. But in its decision, the provinces Labour and Employment Board sided with Matthew Letson, the lawyer for Bryson and the Human Rights Commission, who argued that Bryson still has a year of eligibility to play and is affected by the fact there is no varsity team to try out for. "Bryson, just as any other female athlete with academic standing, could and can still try out to play CIS hockey at UNB -- if a womens varsity hockey team had not been eliminated by UNB," said the decision by board chaairman Robert Breen.dddddddddddd Letson said he was pleased with the decision. "There was never any guarantee that she would qualify for the team and so really its the right to try out which is being interfered with by the fact there is no team to try out for," he said. Bryson welcomed the decision and said she is looking forward to having the hearings resume. The hearings are expected to resume this fall, but no date has been set. "I learned a long time ago that these types of procedures and decisions dont happen quickly, particularly now, given just the number of people involved and schedules," Bryson said from St. Johns, N.L. During her testimony before the board, Bryson said the womens hockey team never received the level of resources enjoyed by the mens hockey team, yet the university compared their outcomes such as win-loss records when the decision was made to cut funding from the womens squad. She didnt play at the unfunded, recreational level because she said it would be insulting. Bryson also wants changes to the gender equality policy of the universitys athletics department, saying it needs to include allocation of resources for both mens and womens teams. The university declined comment and its lawyer did not return a message.
