MILWAUKEE -- The Atlanta Hawks got a confidence boost before the playoffs. The Milwaukee Bucks found out they were being sold. It turned out to be a big night for two teams headed in different directions with the regular season coming to a close. Mike Scott scored 17 points to lead Atlanta in a 111-103 win Wednesday, hours after Milwaukee owner Herb Kohl announced he was selling his team. Mike Muscala added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting for the Hawks, who rallied from a 12-point deficit in the first half. "I think the defence after the first quarter really picked up. It was where we want it to be and need it to be," coach Mike Budenholzer said. Atlanta is locked into the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and a first-round date with the Indiana Pacers. Scott started for forward Paul Millsap, who was rested to get ready for the post-season. "We feel like we are playing about as well as we have played all year for the most part. So the regular season is done, we will take a couple days and get ready for Indiana," forward Kyle Korver said. Brandon Knight scored 31 points to lead the Bucks, who finished an NBA-worst 15-67. Their dismal season is over, though there is more certainty about the teams future after the prospective new owners said they wanted to build a new arena in Milwaukee. Kohl came into the locker room and addressed the team before the game. Coach Larry Drew thinks his team may have been a little distracted, on top of playing the last game of the year. "I would like to think that the concentration was there, but I think I would be lying if I said it was," he said. "This was a big day with all that has happened." The NBA is expected to approve the estimated $550 million sale to New York investment firm executives Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens, who also committed $100 million toward a new arena to replace the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Kohl, a former U.S. senator, also promised to fork over $100 million for a new facility. Wearing a dark green suit to match the Bucks dominant team colour, Kohl received a standing ovation and watched about four rows from the floor at centre court as his team went out and scored 39 points in the first quarter, a season-high for the opening period. But Atlanta took control in the second half, even if the team didnt have much at stake. The top goal was to stay sharp but injury-free, and Budenholzer limited the minutes for key players Korver, DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague on top of having Millsap sit out. The contest had the up-and-down feel of a playground pickup game at times, especially during a first half in which the Bucks shot 63 per cent to the Hawks 60. Atlanta trailed by as much as 12 in the first half before going up by double digits in the fourth quarter. "We just wanted to end the season playing good basketball," Korver said. Atlantas second unit seemed to have more energy down the stretch in pulling past the Bucks. At one point, Ramon Sessions had his pass deflected in the backcourt and bounce past teammate Jeff Adrien, who momentarily froze. It was enough time for Cartier Martin to track down the loose ball and coast in for an uncontested layup during a 15-4 run that helped Hawks take a 97-87 lead with 6:54 left. Another second half during which the Bucks ran out of steam -- a season-long issue. "We had some rough nights. This is a humbling experience," said forward John Henson, who had 19 points. "I think for me and everybody on this team, Im pretty sure nobody imagined this could have happened." Khris Middleton finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for Milwaukee. Brignac hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. His second walk-off hit in two weeks gave the Phillies consecutive wins for the first time since a three-game streak May 17-20. "Its what you play the game for, its what you dream of as a kid," Brignac said. Brignac had a game-winning RBI single in the 14th inning of a 6-5 win over the New York Mets on May 30. His only other walk-off hit before this year was a solo homer for Tampa Bay off Yankees reliever Sergio Mitre in the 11th inning on Sept. 13, 2010. That gave the Rays a 1-0 win and put them a half-game ahead of New York in the AL East. "Different circumstances," Brignac said. "Both feel great." Starters Cole Hamels and Tyson Ross matched zeroes, but didnt get decisions. Hamels struck out a season-high 11 and allowed five hits in eight shutout innings for the Phillies. Ross struck out seven in seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits. Jonathan Papelbon (2-1) tossed a scoreless ninth for the win. "Cole was outstanding," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "Real sharp with his command, his fastballs and change-ups. Hes looking real good." Nick Vincent (0-2) walked Domonic Brown with one out and hit Carlos Ruiz on 1-2 pitch. Brignac then sent a 2-0 pitch into the right-field seats for his first homer with the Phillies. Brignac was just 8 for 40 with 19 strikeouts before going deep. Brignac pointed into the dugout as he jogged to first, slapped his hands together after rounding the bag and was mobbed at the plate by jubilant teammates. He got doused with shaving cream afterward by A.J. Burnett. "It feels great to come through for my teammates," Brignac said. "Cole pitched great." Jimmy Rollins stole two bases on the same pitch in the Phillies first after moving within three hits of breaking Mike Schmidts franchise record of 2,234. Rollins lined a one-out singlle to right, but jogged slowly to first and was grimacing in pain.dddddddddddd He appeared hobbled perhaps because he hit a foul off his leg. But Rollins then stole second base, diving headfirst ahead of the throw. He got up, saw no one covering third base because of an overshift on Ryan Howard and swiped that bag. Howard walked, but Marlon Byrd struck out to end the inning. Johnny Damon once did the same thing against the Phillies, stealing second and third in the ninth inning in Game 4 of the 2009 World Series, a 7-4 win for the Yankees. Hamels pitched out of a couple jams in the early innings. Cameron Maybin led off the third with a double and advanced on Jace Petersons sacrifice, a drag bunt attempt. But Hamels fanned Ross and retired Chris Denorfia on a grounder. San Diego loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but Hamels struck out Maybin swinging to end the inning. "I feel like Ive really been able to execute start to finish," Hamels said. "Im not giving in when I get behind in counts, not overdoing it. Im able to make good pitches and getting good results." The Padres, who entered with the worst batting average in the majors at .217, had just five hits and none after the fourth inning. Carlos Quentin (1 for 29), Everth Cabrera (0 for 23) and Peterson (0 for 20) continued their slumps, going a combined 0 for 10 with six strikeouts. "That was a great pitchers duel," Padres manager Bud Black said. "Both guys were outstanding." NOTES: Phillies ace Cliff Lee has started throwing again, but its uncertain when hell return. Lee has missed four starts since landing on the disabled list with an elbow strain. ... Hamels had double-digit strikeouts for the 26th time, passing Jim Bunning for third place on the Phillies list. ... Byrd was 0 for 4 with four strikeouts. ... Ross lowered his ERA to 2.97. ...
