(SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of Eastern Conference foes square off New Years Eve with the Miami Heat paying a visit to the Indiana Pacers. The Heat went a disappointing 2-5 on a recent homestand and are scheduled to play two straight and seven of the next eight games on the road. They are 8-6 as the visitor this season. Miami closed the South Beach residency with Mondays 102-101 loss to the Orlando Magic. Magic guard Victor Oladipo tied the game with under a minute left, then his free throw snapped the deadlock in the closing seconds. He then defended well on Dwyane Wades potential game-winning shot. We have to work a little bit better on execution, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of the final play. Wade said he didnt have a lane to get off a good shot. He scored 25 points (15 in fourth quarter) and made all 11 of his free throws, while Chris Bosh posted 20 points and eight rebounds in his return to the floor. Bosh had missed the previous eight games (3-5) with a calf injury. Danny Granger scored 21 points and Luol Deng added 14 in defeat. The Heat will visit Houston Saturday and have won their last two games on New Years Eve. Indiana will wrap up a short homestand and dropped a 92-90 decision to rival Chicago on Monday. Jimmy Butler tallied 27 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bulls, while Pau Gasol added 20 points. The Bulls blew a 21-point lead thanks to a furious rally by Indiana that came up just short. George Hill and C.J. Miles scored 11 points apiece for the Pacers, who took a three-point lead (86-83) late in the fourth quarter thanks to 20 unanswered points. Butler later buried a key 3-pointer to hold off Indiana and C.J. Watson missed a 3-pointer from the corner. The Pacers bench outscored Chicagos second unit 48-16 on the night. Chris Copeland scored a team-high 17 points to lead Indianas reserves. Get stops and play quick, said Copeland. We really dug in defensively, we moved the ball. Everybody stayed dangerous, and that led to the comeback. The Pacers bench has combined for 40 or more points in each of the past five games and 11 of the previous 13. Indiana, which had won three of four games before losing to Chicago, is 6-9 at home this season and will start a four-game road trip Friday against Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah and Golden State. The Pacers took the first of four meetings against Miami with an 81-75 victory in South Beach on Nov. 12. Wade had 20 points to lead the Heat, while Copeland paced the visitors with 17. Roy Hibbert had 16 and 15 rebounds in that one for Indiana. The Pacers have won five straight regular season home matchups over Miami. Nate Schmidt Jersey . RITZING, Austria -- It wasnt the long-awaited win that Canada was hoping for, but it was a credible result against a decent European side and an end to an embarrassing 14-month goalless run for Canadas mens soccer team. The Canadians came from a goal down to draw Bulgaria 1-1 in an international friendly at the Sonnenseestadion in Ritzing, Austria on Friday. Atiba Hutchinson converted a penalty in the 26th minute to tie the game after Bulgaria had opened the scoring with a nicely-worked goal by Andrey Galabinov in the 18th minute. The draw represents arguably the best result of the teams current project under the leadership of Spanish coach Benito Floro. The Canadian side has been mired in a miserable spell on the back of a calamitous exit from World Cup Qualifying in October of 2012, but Floro said that Fridays result in Austria signals the end of the "first stage" of his restructuring of the teams fundamental philosophies. "For us it (was) a very good result. Not only because we scored a goal and tied the game but especially because of the tactical behaviour," said Floro, who still speaks largely through an interpreter due to his limited English. Canada showed some rare attacking verve in the first half with Hutchinsons incisive passing leading to clear-cut chances for Tosaint Ricketts and Randy Edwini-Bonsu. But as the game wore on and the score level at 1-1, it was Bulgaria who lookedd the more likely to score the winning goal -- something that Floro attributed to end-of-season fatigue for his players.dddddddddddd "In the second half our players were very tired because they are at the end of their (club) seasons and we did not have another experienced player to make a change with. "So, at the end, it was a very good result and tactical behaviour," he said. For Hutchinson, who broke Canadas ugly goalless streak that dated back to a March 2013 goal by Marcus Haber, it was simply a feeling of "relief to get that over and done with. "Now the next step is to get a win," he said. A victory would indeed go a long way to adding some sincerity to the notion that Canada is a team on an upward trajectory. The Canadians have not won a match since beating Cuba 3-0 in Toronto in October of 2012 and theyre still winless in six matches under their new Spanish boss. But despite another match without a win, Hutchinson cited the resiliency that Canada showed as something that bodes well for the future. "Its something thats definitely been a problem for Canada. Whenever weve conceded goals weve dropped our heads," he said. "Now were looking forward and building the right attitude, on and off the pitch." Canada will next take on Moldova on Tuesday in Mauer, Austria, before the team disbands again until its next camp in Toronto in September. ' ' '
