Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork. Nmd Human Race Italia .com) - Aaron Harrison scored a season-high 26 points and No. 1 Kentucky needed overtime to take down Ole Miss, 89-86, in the SEC opener. Kentucky asserted itself as the most dangerous team in the nation during non- conference play, beating perennial powers Kansas, Texas, North Carolina and UCLA by a combined 97 points before edging in-state rival Louisville, 58-50, on Dec. 27. But the Wildcats (14-0, 1-0 SEC) had a nine-day layoff since that win over the Cardinals and the rust showed as Ole Miss, which lost at home to Charleston Southern earlier this season, took the top-ranked Wildcats to the wire. Harrison made five 3-pointers and 9-of-10 from the foul line while his brother Andrew posted 12 points and five assists. Willie Cauley-Stein provided his usual stellar defense, racking up four blocks and three steals on top of a game-high 12 rebounds. Stefan Moody paced Ole Miss (9-5, 0-1) with 25 points, but missed most of overtime with a leg cramp. Jarvis Summers scored 23 points and Ladarius White added 15. Trailing by three with time winding down in overtime, Summers missed a pull-up jumper and the ball caromed out of bounds to Kentucky. The inbounds pass went to Trey Lyles with a chance to ice the game, but the freshman missed two free throws, leaving the door open. With Moody on the bench and Summers facing pressure, the ball swung to Martavious Newby, who adjusted mid-air against a close-out on his 3-point try from the right wing. His shot hit the backboard and spun around the rim before bouncing out and landing in Cauley-Steins arms. Kentucky passed the ball around, killing the remaining time. The games opening segment belonged to the Harrisons, with Andrew assisting on all three of Aarons 3-pointers before the first media timeout. His first 3 made it 10-0 and forced a timeout less than two minutes in. The second 3 pushed the spread to 15-2. But the early lead quickly disappeared, as Ole Miss settled down and embarked on a 13-3 run from there. Moody bookended the surge with long 3-pointers, and the Rebels were within three. Moody hit two more 3s on back-to-back possessions before the 7:00 mark to give Ole Miss a four-point lead. The spread reached six on Aaron Jones reverse slam at 3:30, and the Wildcats trailed at halftime for just the second time this season. They responded with seven straight to open the second half and climb back in front. Whites corner 3 with 1:36 to play tied the game at 75, and Summers made two free throws 30 seconds later to put the visitors back in the lead. After Aaron Harrison missed a jumper and Ole Miss secured the rebound, Kentuckys fullcourt pressure forced a key turnover. Andrew Harrison came up with the ball and drew a foul on Sebastian Saiz -- his fifth -- and made 1-of-2 to tie it at 77. On the final possession of regulation, Summers isolated on Devin Booker at the top of the key and settled for an NBA-range 3, hitting back rim as the clock expired. The Lions released kicker Alex Henery on Monday, a day after Henery missed three field-goal attempts during Detroits 17-14 home loss to the Buffalo Bills. One of the misses was a 50-yard try in the final minute that would have given the Lions the lead. Henery also missed from 44 and 47 yards and went 1 for 5 during his two-week stint. Thats this business, wide receiver Golden Tate said. Either you handle your business or theyll find someone who will. Its tough weve had to experience that the last few weeks and its tough that thats held us back a little bit, but at the end of the day I dont think you can ever blame the game on any one (person). Detroit (3-2) also released rookie kicker Nate Freese after Week 3. Freese made just 3 of 7 attempts and was 0 of 4 from 40 yards or longer. The Lions will reportedly hold tryouts Tuesday as they look for yet another kicker to fill the void entering Sundays game at Minnesota (2-3). Weve got to find a performer, coach Jim Caldwell said. Weve got to get a guy whos consistent under pressure and able to put points on the board. In this league there are going to be close games. Guys in that position are going to decide a number of games and weve got to make certain we get the right guy for us. Kicking has been a concern for the Lions since Jason Hanson retired following the 2012 season, ending a 21-year career in Detroit. Veteran David Akers made 19 of 24 attempts in 2013 and was released at the end of the season. Asked why the team has struggled to find a successful kicker, Caldwell said its hard to determine how kickers will perform based on a tryout. You cant put them in a game situation and find out everything you need to know about them,, Caldwell said. Yeezy 350 V2 Outlet. You have to certainly make your best guess and go with it and if its not, you get it corrected, and dont be ashamed to get it corrected. Kicking woes aside, the Lions offence has been underwhelming in recent weeks. Detroit scored one offensive touchdown against the Bills and converted just 1 of 9 third down attempts. I think its a matter of getting into a rhythm, running back Reggie Bush said. Weve got to do a better job of getting everyone on the same page and making sure were doing the fundamental things right, because we have great players in this offence. Injuries have also piled up on offence a€” star wide receiver Calvin Johnson suffered a right ankle injury against Buffalo, and his status for the Minnesota game is uncertain. Bush suffered an ankle injury in the second half against Buffalo. While the Lions were also without running back Joique Bell, who missed the game after suffering a concussion during a Week 4 win at the New York Jets. Both running backs were optimistic about their status against the Vikings. I feel good, Bush said Monday. Im gonna prepare like I can play Sunday. Its day to day and Im gonna do everything I can to be out there on the field. Bell said the side effects from his concussion werent severe and hes ready to get back on the field. Tate has emerged as a go-to option in Johnsons absence, getting seven catches for a career-high 134 yards against Buffalo. Hes hoping to stay consistent as Detroit travels to Minnesota in a first-place tie with Green Bay (3-2) in the NFC North. I think its gonna be a big week for this receiver group, Tate said. We dont know whats gonna happen with (Johnson). Hopefully hes out there, but we dont know whats gonna happen. Weve gotta show up big this week again. ' ' '
