The 6-9 Winnipeg Blue Bombers may still be mathematically alive in the chase for a CFL playoff spot, but there are some hard facts — and harder truths — to consider heading into Saturdays matchup at home against the leagues top team, the 12-2 Calgary Stampeders. The Bombers near-anemic offence will be lead by quarterback Brian Brohm after 15-game starter Drew Willy injured his throwing hand while trying to tackle Dexter McCoil, who picked up Odell Willis strip-sack and rumbled 77 yards to pay dirt in last weeks 41-9 dismantling at the hands of the Edmonton Eskimos. Obviously Ive been preparing this whole week as if I was going to be starting, said Brohm, a former second-round NFL draft pick who will make his first ever CFL start in his second season north of the border. I think all year Ive come to work, worked hard every day. I think guys have seen that. I think guys know that they see me in the building, they see me working. I think they have faith in me, confidence in me. Ive really just gone about my business and prepared like I would every week, so I feel like the guys are behind me. I have confidence in the guys Im playing with, so were going to go out there as a group and give our best effort. Following their fifth-straight loss, Winnipeg sent the CFLs touchdown leader (9) and fourth-leading rusher (774 yards) Nic Grigsby packing after the rookie running back requested his outright release upon learning he would not dress for a consecutive game this week. So again, Paris Cotton, who gained just 31 yards on eight carries — including one run for 15 yards — in his first career start last week will be carrying the rock for Winnipeg. We obviously didnt do well protecting the quarterback or protecting the ball. We had a couple turnovers and we got beat bad protecting, so we definitely didnt do what we had to do and the score represented that, said the rookie Cotton, whose fumble in addition to Willys added to Winnipegs five turnovers. Cotton points out the obvious. Willy was sacked four times to put Winnipegs league-worst sacks allowed total at 58. In addition to Cottons own struggles in picking up the extra pass rusher, the Bombers offensive line has gradually become a motley crew of the remaining healthy individuals. This weeks starting five features three linemen with a combined four starts this season; right tackle Devin Tyler (3), rookie right guard Mathias Goossen (1), and left tackle Jace Daniels, who was signed to the practice roster just eight days before his first professional start. Its a challenge, said veteran centre Steve Morley, who alongside left guard Chris Greaves will be the only pieces of the group with any legitimate playing experience this season. You just have to just keep moving forward, and no matter what happens just try to keep their confidence up and stay positive throughout the game no matter what happens. Thats the approach I take usually. The defence will see its share of changes as well, as coodinator Gary Etcheverry will bulk up the linebacking corps a bit with Johnny Sears starting over Canadian Teague Sherman on the strongside, and Don Unamba getting the nod over Desia Dunn on the weakside. I think hes top-5 in special teams tackles. Hes been working extremely hard. Hes a big, physical guy, said head coach Mike OShea of the 6-foot-1 rookie Unamba, who has dressed for every game this season but gets his first start Saturday. There was going to come a point where we want to see him play on defence. And against Calgarys running attack maybe you want someone a little bigger in there and add some physicality, possibly. Tough decisions, no doubt. But just decisions we feel we were going to make this week to try and, once again, generate a win. Nike Air Vapormax Flyknit Skroutz .
